Briefing: Issue 10
The tenth issue of TMA’s Briefing looks ahead to the Chancellor’s Budget expected in March. It warns against large tax increases which will only drive up the level of smuggling, crossborder shopping and bootlegging which, according to HM Revenue & Customs, has lost revenue of somewhere between £14 billion and £23.5 billion since 2000/1.
Also covered in this edition is the issue of Lower Ignition Propensity (LIP) cigarettes. We argue that it is only through work with UK and EU Governments that a solution, based on sound science, can be found.
